Charlotte Bowden: Soloist Summer 2015 and Summer 2017 (soprano)

Charlotte is a young London based soprano who recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music where she studied with Jennifer Dakin and Jonathan Papp. Recent solo engagements have included Bach St John Passion, Bach Magnificat, Handel Messiah, Mozart Requiem, Haydn Stabat Mater, Pergolesi Stabat Mater and Mahler Symphony No. 4.

Operatic roles include Galatea in Acis and Galatea, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, Venus in Venus and Adonis, Ariel in The Tempest and Cupid in King Arthur. She has also performed the role of Peaseblossom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Aldeburgh with Matthew Rose as Bottom and recently sang the role of Bridesmaid in Der Freischütz with Sir Mark Elder and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at the Royal Festival Hall in a cast which included Sir John Tomlinson. Charlotte also enjoys contemporary music and performed the role of Variable 4 in the world premiere of Bofan Ma’s chamber opera, This Is No Opera as well as Candy Nebula by Hamish Brown with the Aysla Ensemble and recently gave the UK premiere of Stephen Goss’ Songs of Ophelia.

Whilst studying, Charlotte regularly took part in the prestigious Royal Academy of Music/Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series as a soloist and chorus member. She has sung in the final concert of the Oxford Lieder Festival’s Schubert Project alongside artists such as Sarah Walker and Kate Royal and was recently awarded First Prizes in the Michael Head Song Prize and the Marjorie Thomas Art of Song Prize at the Royal Academy of Music.

She has performed in public masterclasses with Dame Felicity Lott for the London Song Festival, in the Royal Academy of Music’s Sterndale Bennett Masterclass with Anne Howells, with Dame Emma Kirkby for the Incorporated Society of Musicians, with Chen Reiss at the Austrian Cultural Forum and with Sophie Daneman.

Charlotte performed in the Bergen National Opera’s recent staged production of Handel Messiah as part of their summer opera festival in June 2017. She is also delighted to be involved in a concert performance of Theodora to be directed and coached by Sarah Connolly and Christian Curnyn with the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme in March 2018. Other future engagements include Mozart Coronation Mass at Cumnock Festival, run by James MacMillan in September and Haydn The Creation at Guildford Cathedral in November.
